Bass Flies & Streamers
Bass Flies
A fantastic 60lb Tarpon caught by William Earle whilst fishing in Cuba using a blue/silver bass streamer fly lure.
TraceAce Tackle's range of Bass Flies has been designed and hand-tied purely for the salt water fly fisher. The colours, patterns and actions mimic the bait fish large predators feed on. All the hooks are super strong, ranging from size 1 to 2/0 and are of course salt water resistant. These flies will take all manner of salt water species either here or abroad, fished with conventional fly tackle, or used as a teaser in front of a plug or lure.
Alderney Bass flies
This pattern of Bass flies were reputedly first developed and tied in what I consider the home of Bass Fly fishing - the Channel Islands. Used conventionally with fly casting tackle by the first pioneers of salt water fly fishing, the patterns were slowly honed over many seasons, to create the best bass taking patterns. Subsequently used to enhance a plugs performance by fishing them on a dropper (again first developed in these islands), and kept a closely guarded secret for several years, these three flies not only make a great collection to any Bass anglers armoury, but also come with a lineage that is second to none, being the last in a pattern of flies that can be traced back to the grass roots of this sport.
Baitfish flies
These bait fish flies represent the small fry of Mackerel, herrings and Pouting that are so prolific in the summer months. Superbly tied on size 1 super sharp hooks, these little devils have all the right ingredients to stimulate a feeding Bass, the underbelly red strike point, 3D eyes and a complete range of the best Bass colours available.

A real top tip for using these flies, and to really increase your chance of hooking a decent Bass, is to tie a fly on a short dropper in front of a plug or Bass Streamer. This gives the impression that the lure is chasing a small bait fish, and this stimulates the Bass’s natural hunting instincts into slamming the artificial lure.
Bass Streamers
Steve Hawkins with a lovely bass caught on a Streamer
A 7g super fly with an angled front lip for added wobble. These flies are approx. 20cm long, and are fitted with a weed guard protector, shielding the super sharp 5/0 hook. These flies can be fished on fly or conventional spinning tackle, simply cast out and retrieve allowing the fly to wobble and shimmer, or how I also like to fish them, on a long flowing trace over a wreck or reef with conventional boat gear.
These Streamers are not only great for Bass but are fantastic to take abroad and are proving deadly to all manor of game fish - in particular Tarpon.
20g Mega Bass Streamers
A bigger and heavier version of the Bass Streamer, but without the front lip. The big heavy head allows this lure to be fished sink and draw, allowing the tail to wave and sparkle on the retrieve. This lure can be cast much further, and can be used not only for Bass, but also to target much larger game fish including Bill fish as this lure is fitted with a super strong 7/0 hook.
Mega Streamer & Fly set up
The picture below shows the size difference between the Mega Bass Streamer and one of our conventional Bass Flies, and how you can rig the two together to give the impression that the larger lure is chasing a smaller bait fish, stimulating the predator’s natural instinct to attack either bait.
